Get outside
All winter long we've been cooped up waiting for the moment when it is warm enough to run and play in the sun. Now that it's mid-June, here's the crazy part; some people are appreciating this spring weather by simply opening up a window and calling it good.
If you are watching the same amount of television, spending an equal amount of time on your computer as you were in January!?!?! THIS IS MESSED UP!! It's beautiful outside. Maybe not today as I cannot guarantee glorious weather every day of the yang season, but my goodness-- GET OUTSIDE.
We need that sunshine. Your lungs yearn for that fresh air. Your body is anxious to get out and PLAY!
Your body is like an indoor dog who has just been told, “Walk time!” Their butt wiggles, they jump, they bark and the moment you open the door your body prepares for a sudden jolt forward. Sun, trees, blue sky, grass, people, other dogs… Oh, the art of possibility lies ahead when you leave the indoors and enter nature's playground. Yes, there's the chance of rain, you could get stung by a bee, but our bodies are meant to explore and enjoy the outdoors.
Just like that eager dog, we too benefit from the out-of-doors. We release happy hormones when we get outside and feel exposed, which calms down the nervous system and relieves stress. Traditional Chinese Medicine recognizes spring and summer as the Yang Seasons. What you do now in this season will affect you in the season to come. Want to keep healthy during the Fall when everyone begins to get colds and coughs? GET OUTSIDE AND EXPLORE THIS SPRING SEASON. Strengthen your immune system by gathering in Yang Qi from the sun, move and be more active.
Don't box yourself inside, cut your screen time in HALF. Yes in half. Soak up the sun, get some Vitamin D and go chase a squirrel!
As I finish this blog, I am realizing that I too need to close this darn computer and get outside! It's happening right now!
Byeeeeee sun lizards!
